Indian team’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who plays for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been ruled out of the entire upcoming IPL season. The right-arm pacer will not be able to take part in the upcoming tournament due to an ankle injury. It is being told that Shami will undergo surgery in Britain.
Shami has not been seen on the cricket field since the ICC World Cup 2023 played in India last year. He was also not selected for the South African tour due to injury. Not only this, he was also out of the current Test series against England. Shami’s absence can be very harmful to Gujarat. Apart from this, Shami was the player to win the Purple Cap in IPL 2023 with 28 wickets in 17 matches.
The franchise is already facing losses due to former captain Hardik Pandya leaving Gujarat and joining Mumbai Indians. Hardik was traded to GT by Mumbai before the mini-auction last year.

A senior source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told PTI on the condition of anonymity, “But the injection is not working and now the only option is surgery. He will soon leave for the UK for surgery. The question of IPL does not arise.”
Shami, who was recently honored with the Arjuna Award, has taken 229 Test, 195 ODI, and 24 T20 International wickets in his decade-long career. Due to the injury of the right-arm pacer, there is now very little possibility that he will be able to return to the Indian team before the Test series to be played at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand (October-November). However, it could be a series against Australia.
People knowing the matter believe that NCA’s thinking has not worked in Shami’s case. The source said, “Shami should have gone straight for surgery and this should have been the decision of the NCA. Just two months of rest and injections do not work well and that is what happened. He is an important player and the Indian team will need him in Australia.”
